Abstract
Abstract Pot experiments were conducted to study the effect of different levels of Zn supplied through irrigation water on green beans using brown earth soil. Plants were grown for 15 weeks without nutrients addition. Zinc concentrations increased in all experimental plants. Zinc concentration in various plant organs increased for the first four doses (0.1 to 12.5 mg/1 Zn), then decreased for higher Zn doses. There was a trend in the zinc concentration translocated into various plant tissues(roots > stems > leaves and fruits). There was no clear trend in zinc uptake into these tissues as a response to the levels of Zn added. Visible effects on the growth of the plants were not observed. However, the total dry weight of the plants decreased about 36.7% for the 0.1 to 2.5 mg/1 Zn dose and with no further reductions for higher Zn additions.
