Abstract

Objective To analyze the effect of Yuanbei mixture on transforming growth factor-alpha (TGF-α) and urinary flow rate in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), evaluate the curative effect of Yuanbei mixture on BPH and analyze its mechanism. Methods From January 2017 to April 2018, 92 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia admitted to the urology department of our hospital were treated conservatively. All patients were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group, each group with 46 cases. The two groups were given basic treatment, while the control group was treated with 5 mg, 1 time a day for 2 weeks, and lasted for 4 weeks. The observation group combined with the Yuanbei mixture, one dose daily, lasted for 4 weeks. The clinical efficacy, urinary TGF-α, urinary flow rate and international prostate symptom score (IPSS) were compared before and after treatment. During the treatment, two groups of adverse reactions were observed. Results After treatment, the levels of urinary TGF-α in observation group and control group were significantly lower than those before treatment (P<0.05). After treatment, the levels of urinary TGF-αin observation group were significantly lower than those in control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the contrast urinary flow rate (Qmax, Qave) in the observation group and the control group was higher than that before treatment, and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the IPSS score of observation group and control group was lower than that before treatment, and the IPSS score of observation group was lower than that of control group (P<0.05). The overall efficacy of the observation group was better than that of the control group (P<0.05). Conclusions Yuanbei mixture has definite curative effect on benign prostatic hyperplasia. It can reduce the level of urinary TGF-α, improve urinary flow rate and relieve the patient's condition.
