Abstract

Powder compacts of Al2O3 doped with MgO and Al2O3ZrO2 composite were sintered at various temperatures and then isostatically hot-pressed. The addition of ZrO2 accelerated the initial stage of sintering. The grain growth and pore trapping during sintering were effectively inhibited by the additives and the full densification by subsequent HIP can be obtained if the open pores are eliminated during sintering.
