Abstract

The basic fatigue crack propagation properties, consisting of those properties obtained under the crack-closure-free condition, were measured for an aluminium alloy, an austenitic steel and a ferritic steel. The relationship between the fatigue crack propagation rate and the range of stress intensity factor differed for these materials. However, it was shown that the relationship between the propagation rate and the range of strain intensity factor fell within a narrow scatterband.
