Abstract

Studies of x-ray irradiation effects on dielectric relaxation and internal friction of ice indicated that relaxation times were shortened in both cases, but the corresponding quantities (the imaginary part of the dielectric constant and loss tangent in internal friction) behave differently. Of the two mechanisms discussed in an attempt to explain the results, a charged dislocation process seems to provide the better fit. 3 figures.
