Abstract

Objective To explore the effects of the winding direction and position of noninvasive blood pressure cuff on blood pressure measurement. Methods A self-control study was conducted in 96 critically ill patients. We placed the sensor ofa sphygmomanometer on brachial artery and the lateral side of the upper arm, then measured blood pressure every 5 minutes in forward and reverse directions, and then documented the readings. Results The systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, and mean blood pressure did not differ significantly among different ( P> 0.05 ); multiple comparisons did not show significant differences ( P > 0.05 ).Conclusions The winding direction and location of noninvasive blood pressure cuff have no effects on the accuracy of blood measurement by using a ECG monitor.
