Abstract

The effect of wind on the dispersal of T. semifumatum (Perkins) was studied by releasing these parasitic wasps and then after 24 hours, recovering them at 4 heights on sticky posterboard panels circumscribing release points at 8 cardinal compass directions at 3 radii, 2, 4, and 8 ft. Recovery was recorded for 2 experiments with different wind conditions. Percentages of released wasps recovered in windward directions were compared with percentages recovered in directions perpendicular to the wind. Results indicated that wind influenced dispersal of T. semifumatum . Also, vertical and directional distribution data showed that the height of the plant canopy is the most favorable level for release if a perimetrical distribution pattern is desired.
