Abstract

ABSTRACTNaturally colored cotton fibers are of interest in the textile industry because they require no dyeing and result in less environmental pollution. In this study wet scouring with conventional caustic solutions NaOH and NaCO3 as well as enzyme treatments were performed on upland white and brown naturally pigmented cotton fibers to evaluate color fastness of the latter using the CIE L*, a*, b* color system. For all treatments L* values were alike in both cottons tested while a color shift towards darker brown resulted in colored cotton only and enzymatic activity improved overall performance.
