Abstract

In this research article, an attempt is made to modify the Al-Zn alloy to know the influence of zinc content on microstructure and also the effect of wear parameter on wear rate for the modified alloy under different conditions. In the current research modification of Al-Zn alloy have been done by adding Zn in 5.1 wt%, 5.6 wt% and 6.1 wt% and Mg in 2.1 wt%, 2.5 wt% and 2.9 wt%. The modified Al-Zn alloy were subjected to Solutionzing treatment and followed by Retrogression Reageing (RRA) heat treatment. These Al-Zn alloys were cut and machined as per ASTM standard size. Irregular grain boundaries, grain size have been observed from the microstructure. Wear rate were found to be decrease with increase in content of zinc and reaging duration. Further, Taguchi’s Technique was adopted with three wear parameters with their three level each by using L27 (213) orthogonal array. ANOVA have been carried out to identify the percentage contribution of all the factor. It is evident that, the experimental results are good agreement with the predicted values during regression analysis.
