Abstract

Abstract Mesoscale test burns were conducted to determine the effect of water spray on the combustion characteristics of crude oil on a water surface. Data obtained during these burns suggest that the water spray increased the surface regression rate, decreased the smoke production, and did not reduce the fraction of oil consumed. Such information could be applied to in-situ burning of oil on water as an oil spill response technique.
