Abstract

Conductance measurements at 25°C on dilute solutions of hydrochloric acid in pentan-1-ol containing small amounts of water are reported. The data were analyzed with the 1965 Fuoss–Onsager conductance equation. The analysis of the dependence of the limiting equivalent conductance viscosity product on chain length of alcohol molecules shows that λ°H+η increases with increasing monomer concentration. This experimental evidence is qualitatively discussed with respect to current theories of the proton-transfer mechanism.
