Abstract

Background/Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of water depth through water walk exercise on strength of trunk muscle and EMG of Erector spinae and external oblique. Methods/Statistical analysis: 24 male people in Chungnam who were in their 20s and healthy were selected. All subjects were tested for their isokinetic strength of lumbar and iEMG, MEF of external oblique & erector spinae on prone bridge position between at pre-exercise value and at 8 week of water walk exercise program sites, between CWG and WWG. It was used mixed design two-way ANOVA. Significant level was a=.05. Findings: First, water depth through water walk exercise had increased BW/PQ(angular velocity of 60°/sec) of trunk extensor in post-exercise was higher than pre-exercise. Second, water depth through water walk exercise had increased PQ, BW/PQ and Average power(angular velocity of 60°/sec) of trunk flexor in post-exercise was higher than pre-exercise. Third, water depth through water walk exercise had not increased Isokinetic strength(angular velocity of 120°/sec) of trunk extensor in between post-exercise and pre-exercise. Fourth, water depth through water walk exercise had increased PQ, BW/PQ and Total work(angular velocity of 120°/sec) of trunk flexor in post-exercise was higher than pre-exercise. Fifth, water depth through water walk exercise had increased iEMG of external oblique and erector spinae in post-exercise was higher than pre-exercise and WWG was higher than CWG. Sixth, water depth through water walk exercise had increased MEF of external oblique and erector spine in post-exercise was higher than pre-exercise and WWG was higher than CWG. Improvements/Applications: water walk exercise in WWG and CWG are both effective to improve Trunk muscle strength and especially Trunk muscle post WWG is more strongly increased as opposed to CWG.
