Abstract

Convective instability in a plane vertical channel is considered. Under the simplest boundary conditions, a characteristic equation is obtained and critical conditions for Rayleigh convection in the form of two-dimensional flows in the plane of the channel are determined. It is discussed whether or not such instability may occur in evaporation processes for which a transition to an intense evaporation mode related to the development of Rayleigh convection was previously observed.
