Abstract

Little is known on vitrification-induced damage to GV oocyte nuclear and cytoplasmic structures that contribute to low fertilization rate and poor embryo development observed in vitrified-warmed (vw) oocytes. Mitochondria are the site of ATP production and thus critical for providing energy for appropriate oocyte function pre and post fertilization. The aim of this study was to characterize mitochondrial distribution and ATP concentration during oocyte maturation following vitrification.
