Abstract
Two trials were conducted to determine the effect of light on broiler performance under a moderate temperature regime where bird activity would not be restricted by temperature. A positive control consisted of light continuous at an intensity of 12.9 lux. Broilers receiving 12 hours of continuous light at an intensity of 204.5 lux and 12 hours of darkness during all or part of the 8-week period weighed significantly less and had significantly poorer feed conversion than the control group at both 5 and 8 weeks of age.Broilers receiving 12 hours of continuous light at an intensity of 204.5 lux and 12 hours at an intensity of 12.9 lux had an equated body weight at 5 and 8 weeks of age when compared with that of the control group, but had significantly poorer feed conversion than the control group at 8 weeks of age.
