Abstract

Soilbags, namely geotextile bags filled with soil or soil-like materials, are commonly used in improving the bearing capacity of traditional earthworks. The paper aims to examine the effect of various lateral boundaries on the maximum bearing capacity of soilbag under vertical loading. In this research, the maximum bearing capacity of soilbag with lateral semi-circular boundary was examined using the analytical method. Then, the maximum bearing capacity of soilbag with lateral semi-elliptical boundary was presented. The result showed that by increasing of the semi-elliptical eccentricity and internal friction angle of sand, the vertical bearing capacity of soilbag increased under external loads.
