Abstract

GAUDET, JOHN J. and DONELITA V. KoH (State Uniiversity of New York, Stony B3rook, N.Y.). Effect of various growth regulators on Salvinia rotundifoltia in sterile culture. Bull. Torrey Bot. Club. 95: 92-102. 1968.-When light, temperature, pH, and carbon source are held constant, 1-naphthalene acetic acid (NAA), 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and gibberellic acid (GA) cause an increase in dry and fresh weight of Salvinia at low concentrations. Indole-3-acetic acid, GA, 2,4-D and NAA at high concentrations, and kinetin or N6-benzyladenine at all concentrations inhibited weight increase. It is suggested that compounds similar to the cytokinins might have potential as herbicides of Salvinia.
