Abstract

The general case of a true wavelength distribution l lambda )d lambda modified by a factor f( lambda ) is considered. Expressions for the true and the modified centroids are derived. The fractional change in the centroid wavelength is DELTA lambda / lambda == Vf / lambda f, where V is the wavelength variance. The fractional rate of change of quantum counting efficiency with wavelength, f / f, is measured for Geiger, proportional (Xe), proportional (Kr), film, and scintillation detectors for wavelengths of Mo, Cu, and Cr K alpha radiations. Results are represented in graphic and tabular forms. (L.N.N.)
