Abstract

We used 3 types of fluorescent lamp (GL20, FL20S-E, FL20S-BLB) to increase the flavonoid content of harvested strawberries and onions. Their radiation induced the synthesis of anthocyanins in strawberry and quercetin in onion. Color differences between the sunlit and shaded sides of strawberry fruit disappeared, and the content of quercetin in onion doubled, especially under FL20S-BLB. These results suggest that UV radiation after harvest improves the quality of strawberries and onions.
