Abstract

The effect of uniaxial compressive strain on the J c - H behaviour in the Ag-clad Bi-based superconducting tapes has been investigated. For a single tape, J c remains unaffected until a critical compressive strain 0.55%. Results of magnetisation measurements reveal that the normalised J c for the uniaxial pressed tape has an improved performance in magnetic fields compared with that before pressing although the absolute value of J c of the former is reduced to 50% of the latter at a pressure of 1 GPa.
