Abstract

Renewable energy has become one of the important media for future needs because the demand for fossil fuels continues to increase progressively. One of the new and renewable energy sources that has the potential to be developed is micro-hydro power plants. In this research, an experimental study will be carried out on the performance of a portable micro hydro power plant using an Archimedes screw turbine. The performance that is analyzed is the rotation of the screw and the amount of electrical energy produced by the generator by varying the turbine tilt angle and the upstream turbine water flow velocity. Variation of the turbine tilt angle is done by adjusting the screw shaft angle of 5°, 10°, 15°, 20° and 25°. Through this research, it is hoped that the optimal setting of the Archimedes screw turbine tilt will be known to produce optimum electrical energy for applications in water irrigation canals, especially in remote areas that have sufficient flowing water sources.
