Abstract

Depressive disorder is a common serious mental illness, with significant disability rate and mortality, which has caused serious burden to society and family. At present, nearly half of the depressive patients are unable to get effective treatment. In clinical practice, ketamine was widely observed to alleviate depressive symptoms effectively. However, its antidepressant mechanism is not clear. Focusing on the progresses in antidepressive mechanism of ketamine, this review summarizes the complex interaction mechanism about acute and delayed effect of ketamine, and puts forward the feasible scheme of design based on the existing literatures and previous researches, which aims to provide scientific basis for clinical application of ketamine as an antidepressant.
