Abstract

Among various machining parameters, tool signature has a significant contribution to the cutting dynamics and the stability of a machining process. Investigations carried out so far by different researchers regarding cutting dynamics and the stability of a machining process have failed to consider and evaluate the effect of tool nose radius on the stability of a turning process. In this study, both static and cutting tests have been carried out to investigate the effect of the tool nose radius on the stability of a cutting process: the results of both types of tests are found to have good qualitative agreement. A theoretical analysis carried out in this study has further substantiated the results obtained.
