Abstract

IN 1947, LaRue reported the regeneration of sporophytes from maize endosperm tissue, and also limited growth of the endosperm tissue without regeneration or differentiation when excised and placed on an appropriate artificial medium1. In 1948, continuing this study, he succeeded in obtaining a culture of maize endosperm of a callus-like nature having unlimited growth2. This original stock has been in culture for more than two years, and I also have stocks in culture from two other varieties of maize.
