Abstract

The problem of the effect of linear thermal expansion and micro-inertia on the refraction of elastic waves at a plane interface between two dissimilar half-spaces of micropolar thermoelastic materials with voids has been attempted. The existence of six waves, (i) three coupled longitudinal waves, (ii) micropolar longitudinal wave, and (iii) two coupled shear waves are seen in such materials. Amplitude ratios of various reflected and refracted waves for the incident longitudinal and shear waves are obtained analytically and numerically for a particular model. We also derived energy partitions of the reflected and refracted waves due to incident longitudinal and shear waves.
