Abstract

Effect of the Yb3+ on fluorescence lifetime of Er-doped silica optical fiber was studied in paper. An Er/Yb co-doped fiber is fabricated by MCVD (Modified Chemical Vapor Deposition) with ALD (Atomic Layer Deposition). There exists a broadband luminescence spectrum at 800-1300 nm. The measurement results showed that the fluorescence lifetime of the Er/Yb co-doped fiber at 1533 nm was 11.26 ms, while that of the Er-doped fiber was 9.82 ms. It can be inferred that there is energy transfer in the change of lifetime.
