Abstract

Conduction of action potentials in the intact tympanic nerve of the locust Locusta migratoria migratorioides was not affected by topical application of undiluted venom of the scorpion Leiurus quinquestriatus. After chemical desheathing of the nerve by pronase, application of the venom produced a burst of spontaneous activity which gradually decreased and was followed by complete blockage. It was concluded that the intact nerve is impermeable to scorpion venom.
