Abstract
Cr3+ doped magnesia aluminum spinel has potential applications in the fields of sensing, scintillator and laser. The structure, morphology, photoluminescence and diffuse reflection spectra of Mg(Al,Y)2O4:Cr3+ were examined as a function of toluene content during the Pechini-type hydrothermal process. Toluene solvent changed the microstructure of Mg(Al,Y)2O4:Cr3+ nanopowders, especially for the ratio of Al:Mg in the sample. Toluene also improved the agglomeration of nanopowders, and the luminescent intensity of the sample prepared with 60% and 75% toluene was enhanced by 16%.
