Abstract
Abstract The photo-Fries rearrangement of the bisacetate of 4,4′-dihydroxydiphenyl sulphone (bisphenol-S) yields only a mono rearrangement product with no bis rearrangement product, whereas under thermal conditions a 23% yield of the bis rearrangement product is obtained. However, a 40% yield of the photo-rearranged product is obtained when 4-( p -tolylsulphonyl)phenyl acetate is irradiated under identical conditions.
