Abstract
The aim of the experiment was to use the DNA mutations in the RBP4 and OPN genes to determine associations between the genotypes and litter size in Tibet pigs. Reproductive traits investigated were total number of piglets born (TNB) and number of piglets born alive (NBA). The polymorphisms were detected using the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment-length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method with MspI for RBP4 gene and PCR product electrophoresis in a 1.5% agarose gel for OPN gene, respectively. The relationships between the genotypes of two genes and traits investigated were analysed. Our results provide further evidence that both RBP4 and OPN genes can be used as genetic markers to improve reproductive performance in Tibet sows and help breeders select the best sows at an early stage.
