Abstract

Extensive experimental tests were conducted to study the effect of solid loading on the collection efficiency and pressure drop across gas–solid cyclone separators. The experiments were conducted at four different cyclone sizes 0f 7.5,10,14 and 16 cm, various particle sizes ranged from 70 to 510 μm and various dust loading varied from 50 to 350 gsolids/kgair. The results indicated that the collection efficiency decreased with increasing the solid loading. The pressure drop across the cyclone decreases with increasing the solid loading for a 10 cm size cyclone and no considerable variation is noted for cyclone sizes larger than 10cm. Also, the study reported visual observation of cyclone flow patterns during separation.
