Abstract

The Cooper pairing on a square lattice in the extended Hubbard model that includes the nearest-neighbor Coulomb interaction is studied in the random-phase approximation. It is found that in both the antiferromagnetic and paramagnetic regimes, the d-wave attractive interaction can be drastically reduced with the introduction of a small nearest-neighbor interaction (V/U10%). The reduction becomes stronger in both regimes as we move away from the phase transition and is the strongest in the antiferromagnetic regime.
