Abstract

The effect of magnetic loss in YIG on the propagation characteristics of magnetoelastic Rayleigh waves is determined for the case of propagation on a (100) YIG surface in the direction of a [001]-oriented tangential bias field. The maximum absorption rate of the surface waves decreases with increase in the magnetic linewidth, but because of the nonresonant nature of the surface waves the leakiness of these waves is a stronger determining factor of the absorption rate.
