Abstract
1. The endurance of the specimens of the iron-nickel alloy on the same level of thermal and force loading in vacuum is higher than the endurance in air. 2. Oxygen has a controlling effect on the mechanism of initiation and propagation of metal failure in testing the alloy in air. 3. The nature of interaction of atmospheric oxygen with the surface of the alloy and the grain boundaries is identical.
