Abstract
Creep behavior of titanium has been investigated in the author's laboratory both in the alpha (hcp) phase and in the beta (bcc) phase. These results enable us to make a strength-comparison between the hcp and the bcc phases. The comparison in thallium, which has hcp and bcc phases, has also been made using the Dorn equation. Both metals are of the hcp system at lower temperature and of the bcc system at higher temperature; the transformation temperature T US is 1156 K in Ti and 505.5K in T1. The values of c/a in the hcp system of these metals are less than the ideal value 1.633, i.e., 1.587 in a-Ti and 1.598 in a-T1.
