Abstract

An experimental data-processing method taking into consideration ion pairs is presented for determining the thermodynamic second ionization constant of carbonic acid. Numerical values of K 2 were recalculated for the temperature interval 0–218 °C. The experimental determination of carbonic acid dosages for water stabilization shows that the usage of uncorrected K 2 values may lead to inaccuracies in carbonate equilibrium calculations.
