Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effects of the core competency training on cardiovascular specialist nurses in military hospitals.Methods The Competency Inventory for Registered Nurse scale designed by LIU Ming was used to investigate 156 registered nurses between June 2008 and May 2011 before and after the training.The training outcomes were also evaluated by the scores of theory and skills examination and evaluation from curriculum design and clinical teachers after the training.Results After the training,the scores of theory [(91.5 ± 8.5) vs (62.5 ± 7.5)] and nursing skill examination [(94.5 ± 10.5) vs (71.5 ± 11.5)] for nurses'self-rated professional core competency were significantly higher than before training (t =-16.91,-17.44,respectively;P <0.01).Evaluation about curriculum design and clinical teachers was significantly improved after the training.Conclusions The training model for cardiovascular specialist nurses in military hospitals is suitable for the modern nursing development,which can effectively improve nurses' professional competency.
