Abstract

Two men with benign prostatic hypertrophy were studied before and after treatment with the antiandrogen cyproterone acetate. Following treatment the production rate of estradiol as calculated from the specific activity of urinary estrone or estriol decreased by approximately one half. The treatment altered the metabolism of estradiol in that less estrone, 2-hydroxyestrone and 2-methoxyestrone but more estriol was formed, a pattern similar to that found in men with breast cancer.
