Abstract

Temporary islanding of offshore wind farm will happen owing to the HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current system) blocking while transient DC-fault occurs in the connected FB-MMC (Full Bridge Modular Multilevel Converter) HVDC system. As the mainstream of offshore wind farm, DFIG (Doubly Fed Induction Generator) has defects under islanding conditions in control strategy, which causes the phenomena of overvoltage and instantaneous impulse current in PCC (Point of Common Coupling) node, threating to security of both HVDC and wind-farm. This paper analyzes response of DFIG under temporary islanding in detail and proposes a solution of transient DC FRT (Fault Ride Through) for DFIG, which is verified by simulation on PSCAD/EMTDC.
