Abstract

The yield stress and dynamic moduli of kaolinite and bentonite suspension have been investigated at two different temperatures, 3°C (typical of seabed temperature), and room temperature 25°C. It is found that their yield stress and moduli increase with increasing temperature, and this temperature dependent behavior is more obvious at higher concentration. It is proposed that the face-to-face repulsive electrostatic energy between clay particles, which increases with increasing temperature is responsible for the temperature dependent behavior of clay suspensions.
