Abstract

Temperature dependence of ultrasonic attenuation is investigated for potassium halides in the temperature range 100–400K. These calculations are done for KCl, KBr and KI for longitudinal and shear waves along the 〈111〉 direction. The non-linearity coupling parameters and thermal relaxation time have also been obtained for these crystals. In the present investigation, it has been found that phonon–phonon interaction is the dominant cause for ultrasonic attenuation.
