Abstract

This chapter discusses the effect of temperature on heat transfer coefficient in cross flow over a circular cylinder. The accurate knowledge of the overall convective heat transfer from a circular cylinder with small and large aspect ratio in the cross flow is important in many fields of engineering application. Even though a great number of papers have been published up to now, there has been a large difference in their experimental results. Thus, to precisely know the effects of the wire temperature, the fluid temperature, and the fluid velocity on convective heat transfer, experiments were carried out in three categories that contain the cases of (1) the constant wire temperature T w , (2) the constant ambient fluid temperature T a , and (3) the constant temperature difference T=T w T a between the wire and the fluid. The chapter describes three experiemnts that were performed to know the effects of T w, T a, and U on h: (1) case of constant fluid temperature T a, (2) case of constant wire temperature T w , and (3) case of constant T w & T a .
