Abstract

A research team led by Alan J. Zillich, PharmD, Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the Purdue University College of Pharmacy, recently released the results of a randomized, controlled pragmatic trial on the effect of pharmacists' telephonic medication therapy management (MTM) on hospitalization rates among a sample of home health care patients. The study was published in the journal Health Services Research (HSR). In this condensed and edited version of an interview with Pharmacy Today , Zillich and a coauthor, Margie E. Snyder, PharmD, MPH, Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Purdue, discuss the findings—including some unexpected ones—and how the results might help inform future MTM research and clinical practice initiatives .
