Abstract

1. The porosity of sintered specimens of 1–1.5-mm thickness depends on the sintering pressure, but is virtually independent of the initial porosity after compaction. The densification effect is greatest when a pressure of 5–10 kg/cm2 is applied to specimens during sintering; increasing the sintering pressure to 30 kg/cm2 produces very little additional densification. 2. The metallic matrix of tin bronze base alloys sintered for 4 h at 540, 600, and 650°C is characterized by concentration heterogeneity of its solid solution. 3. By employing suitable combinations of sintering pressure and temperature, it is possible to ensure that specimens produced under different conditions have the same density and mechanical properties.
