Abstract

Polycarbonate (PC) is classified as an amorphous engineering thermoplastic due to its excellent balance of toughness, clarity, dimensional stability, high-heat deflection temperatures, and excellent electrical properties. The present study deals with the incorporation of talc and synthetic sodium aluminum silicate (SSAS) as fillers in PC to enhance the dimensional stability, stiffness, and stability at high temperature of polymers. Polycarbonate was extruded with various concentrations of talc and SSAS and then compression molded to get the specimens for evaluation for mechanical and thermal properties. The effect of fillers on the rheology of filled PC is studied. It is found that impact strength increases with increase in concentration of talc as well as SSAS. Electrical properties almost remain unchanged with respect to the concentration of the filler.
