Abstract

IN the rat, infection with helminth parasites can have the remarkable effect of causing nonspecific potentiation of IgE (reaginic) antibody responses against antigens unrelated to those of the parasite. This phenomenon, which has been called the potentiated reagin response1, has been found to encompass IgE responses to antigens as diverse as egg albumin, keyhole limpet haemocyanin and house dust2 and has been produced with representatives of both nematode and trematode parasites3.
