Abstract

Hydrotalcite-like anionic clays (HTs) (also known as Layered Double Hydroxides (LDHs) are the most common group of ionic lamellar solids. These materials provide numerous advantages, such as economical and simple synthetic methods, easy separation from the reaction mixture, and recycling potential, according to the green chemistry point of view. X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique remains an essential tool in the characterization of many materials, including HTs/LDHs. XRD diffractogram of HTs/LDHs interpreted and revealed the hexagonal structure system of these materials with sharp and intense lines as characteristic peaks which shows their well-ordered crystalline nature. The various synthesizing aspects of these materials (nature and composition of divalent and trivalent metal cations, as well as anions, temperature, aging time, and pH) play important role in the crystallinity of prepared HTs/LDHs materials. This study highlighted and summarized the various research reports related to the effect of synthesizing aspects on crystallinity through XRD analysis of HTs/LDHs.
