Abstract

The velocity constants of base - catalyzed methyl, ethyl, isopropyl and n-butyl acetates in aqueous and micellar media are determined at different temparatures. The velocity constants in anionic and non-ionic media are higher than those in aqueous media, whereas the energy of activation are lower. The velocity constants for the alkaline hydrolysis of the esters vary in the order : κ-methyl acetate > κ-ethyl acetate > κ-isopropyl acetate < κ-n-butyl acetate.
