Abstract

Non-ionic, anionic and cationic assisted Co3O4 nanoparticles have been successfully prepared by the wet chemical process. The obtained products were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, SEM, TEM, UV–vis, PL, VSM and CV studies to depict the structure, functional groups, morphology, optical, magnetic and electrochemical properties. From XRD study, the strong and sharp diffraction peaks are indexed to the FCC structure. The functional groups of the Co3O4 samples were identified by the FT-IR studies. The SEM images showed the spherical-like morphology of Co3O4 samples. From TEM study, the particle size of the obtained products was calculated to be ∼40–52 (non-ionic), ∼35–38 (anionic) and ∼25–30nm (cationic) for the Co3O4 samples. The absorption spectra showed that the absorption edge of the Co3O4 samples was observed in UV region. From PL spectra, the emission bands was attributed in the visible region at around 400–575nm for the obtained products. The electrochemical behaviors of the Co3O4 samples were studied by using the CV studies. From VSM study, the ferromagnetic behavior was observed at room temperature for the CTAB assisted Co3O4 sample.
