Abstract

AbstractThe effect of surface polarization on the ground state of an Fs center in NaCl and KCl is studied. The energy of this state is calculated by perturbative and variational methods. The F band position of this center is obtained also, for some alkali halides, by first order perturbation. It is found that these effects are, in general, small.
